Many federal contractors have another required workforce data filing due before the end of the federal fiscal year. Contractors and subcontractors with at least one federal contract of $150,000 or more must file their hiring and employment data regarding protected veterans with the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) on or before September 30, 2024. The portal for filing the data using the report format known as the VETS-4212 opens today.
There are two data sections of the VETS-4212:
- Information on the total number of protected veterans in the contractor’s workforce, broken down by location and occupational categories; and
- Information on hiring activity for the preceding twelve months, including the number of protected veterans hired, sorted by occupational category.
The DOL has provided two resources to walk the contractor through the process of making the required filing:
- The new VETS-4212 Report Advisor, one of a series of agency-developed tools known as ‘elaws’ (Employment Laws Assistance for Workers and Small Businesses) to help employers and employees understand their rights and obligations under federal laws: https://webapps.dol.gov/elaws/vets/4212/Intro.aspx.
- Updated FAQs detailing both eligibility requirements and answers to the technical questions that come up in using the online filing portal: https://www.dol.gov/agencies/vets/programs/vets4212#faqs.
